Optical bonding for defence display projects

Displays used in demanding operational environments need a defined engineering brief. Start with the use case, optical stack and the tests required for the complete product.

The project perspective

Translate the operating environment into requirements

Vehicle, portable and control-room interfaces can face different combinations of vibration, temperature, sunlight and handling. Bonding can form part of the front-assembly design, but it does not by itself establish compliance with a defence standard, environmental qualification or electromagnetic shielding performance.

Vehicle interfaces

Define mounting, vibration profiles, shock loads and day/night use.

Portable equipment

Specify weight, drop exposure, gloves, moisture and battery-related system constraints.

Optical requirements

Identify brightness ranges, viewing angles and any specialist filter or night-operation needs for assessment.

Before the first review

What to put in your brief.

A useful specification reduces uncertainty and gives the technical review a clear starting point.

  • Intended platform and non-sensitive environment details
  • Relevant test profiles and acceptance criteria
  • Display stack, mounting and prototype programme
Questions worth asking

Clear scope. Clear expectations.

Are defence certifications claimed?

No. Applicable standards, evidence and any required test programme must be agreed for the particular project.

Should sensitive drawings be sent in the first enquiry?

Start with a non-sensitive outline. Agree the appropriate information-sharing arrangements before supplying restricted material.

Your application. Your requirements.

Make the next step specific.

Share the display details, the environment and the project timeline.
